Tribute from Olwyn Johnston –
Gordon and Sheila lived across the road from me at Hatuma for a few years before returning to their happy place, Ngamatea Station. Gordon was the mechanic there, did all the bulldozer work, and Sheila was the station cook. They retired to Taihape, and Gordon went back and did track work for years. He was also the rural delivery postie in Taihape.
He was a gentle giant, a man of principles, honest, hardworking and fun.
The world is a better place because he was here, and at the end of the day, that is all we can ask for.
