Just read of the passing of my father’s 1st cousin. Enjoyed meeting him last March with my sister Emer and spending a few hours in his company. May he rest in peace. From his cousins in Ireland.

OH HOW SAD it is to only hear today the 2nd February 2026 of my very much loved UNCLE TONY and such a regular communicator for so many years with me, As tears flow and my heart aches I am finding comfort in so many past memories of lovely times we spent together visiting all our old immediate Mathews family farms where they had lived , worked and then also their graves. Then of course there were more trips together when he got me to take him to revisit places of his experiences schools, homes, work places and so many adventures he and and brother Gerald had got up to as young boys. in North Wairarapa/Bush district.
May you be Resting in Peace Tony and you will live on in my heart and also in the many books full of your life’s stories and history you have written to me through the years which I will be able to reread.

Oh Tony. So very sad to hear that you’re gone too. You and Gerald together were a class act and kept Alwyn and I entertained in ways others would never believe. Weren’t able to spend alot of time together but when we were in the same place it was as if we’d never been apart. Visits by you in Pongaroa and Mangaweka and for us down to your neck of the woods.
Pure GOLD.
Hope you’re resting easy.
