On 26th August 2026 at Lower Hutt Hospital in her 100th year.

Beloved wife of the late Roy Gilbert; cherished mother of Peter, Barbara, and Ian; and mother-in-law to Diane and Ruth.

Adored grandmother of Eve and Aaron, Liam, Rory, Kathryn;

Loved sister of Frank & Mary, Joyce & Jim, and Robert & Margaret; and a friend to many.

Your passing has come as a shock to us all. You will be greatly missed and forever held in our hearts.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Wairau Hospital and Lower Hutt Hospital for all they did in Edna’s time of need, and the support of her family.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Cancer Society, (Cancer Society of New Zealand – Marlborough Centre, a/c 06-0601-0044826-00, reference GILBERT), would be appreciated.

A private family gathering to celebrate Edna’s life has been held at Sowman’s Funerals Chapel, followed by a private burial.

Tribute from Malcolm and Elizabeth Manson – 
I worked with Edna at the Farmers Co-op in Blenheim. We kept in touch after we left to live in Palmerston North and was always interested to know how my family and I were getting on. Edna took me under her wing so to speak as a young man in charge of the hardware and china department at the Farmers. I shall always have fond memories of working together.

I worked with Mrs Gilbert at the Delarue Bakery in Redwood town quite a few years ago now. I have fond memories of her. She always kept in touch over the years to see how I was. An Amazing lady to live to nearly 100.
