BOURKE, Edmund Joseph ‘Ted’

Died peacefully at Redwood Retirement Village on Saturday 18th July 2026 aged 86 years – his body worn out and in need of rest

Ted is survived by Sally, his wife of 64 years, 5 children and partners, 10 grandchildren, and 3.5 great grandchildren – along with his remaining 9 siblings.

Ted will be remembered by everyone that met him in ‘various ways’ but mainly as a hardworking bugger (who could be grumpy at times), who had a love of using the ‘f***’ word, a good yarn, and someone who was always there when called on.

At Ted’s request, a private cremation has taken place, and no funeral to be held.

All message to 20 Mitchell Street – the kettle will always be on and the doors open as ever.

Your tribute to Ted, was him to a T, hard working, grumpy, but kind.
Many a young man would learn their construction skills from Ted, if they could keep up.
I enjoyed working with and along side Ted for many years, there was the odd day i could have been some were else.
Ted had a great memory, his Oral traditions of history he shared in the smoko rooms and sheds are still being told today.
Ted, thank you for your time and company over the years.

Ted, it’s hard to put into words what you did for us and our family… I’ll remember you as the joker and the grump. You were always firm but fair, stern but kind. You always called us on our sh*t and we were better for it. The lives of our entire family are so much better because of you and I will be forever grateful. Thank you for your steadfast friendship and support of both Brian and Dad, as well as Mum. Thank you for not calling me out in front of Dad when you asked me on my 16th birthday if I was “sweet 16 and never been kissed” and I said of course – yet you could see straight through that answer hahaha. Finally, thank you for joining us at Dad’s memorial a couple of years ago. It wouldn’t have been the same without you and it was a joy to see you. You may not have been family in name, but you were always family to us.

Sorry to hear of Teds passing, I first knew Ted many years ago growing up in Alabama Road, he was a good Redwoodtown boy.
Then we met again a few years ago when he was working for Meadowbank and I was working for John Deere. He was a great guy and told it the way it was. RIP Ted
